Fifties Doll: Eloise

Hi MissC,
I ran across this picture of one of the very first Eloise dolls ever made in l957.
Maybe she was the first 18" doll!
She was designed by a lady from Vienna named Vilma Kurzer who made a clay model of her face so that she could build a cloth mold over the clay. Then she made a face of silk and painted it. Her hair was made of genuine wool yarn to give her that "fly away mop top". I like how her hands and legs
can bend.  In 1957 Good Housekeeping Magazine feature Eloise.

Delta, the first passenger plane, 1929, or 1928? Inside varnished wood and it looked like folding chairs for seats at the theater!

Dog Explorer

Tana, the happy little dog.
Free to go in and out. She liked exploring in the flower jungle garden in her back yard, and looking things over in the house from the couch. A little dog who seems to be humming to herself.
TANA LAWN--the name of a Liberty of London fabric that your mom likes!

Bird With Babes

Hi missC, a friend sent the bird with babes on an email. Cute!

Monday, July 25, 2011

Hi Miss C,
There has been
only one siting by me
of a chipmunk so far this summer.
Chipmunks don't like it too hot or two cold.
And I don't think I do either!

On another note, I saw a man stop his car near the milk weed plants
looking, I think, for chrysalis.
The monarchs are back. I saw one taking out the garbage...that was me taking out the garbage and not the butterfly taking out the garbage...
Happy nature watching at your house!

And according to the newspaper in NC, Tawnia has in her area, little black bears. I wonder if they like butterflys? I know they like garbage!!!

Nibblers

Hi MissC, Grandpa wonders if you got your inspiration to draw this cute little rabbit, from the two little rabbits that come to nibble in the garden!

Modern Day Communication.

Woodpecker pecking on a yellow turn left sign. I think it's Morris Code.
There is a pause.
Then a woodpecker replies from a turn right sign a little farther down the winding road.

(I notice there are no old dead hollow trees close by!)

Surprises

I packed away the Barbie dolls things, all except the little black purse that seemed once more to escape! I found it hiding in the green carpet.

Then, looking up at the fireplace mantle, Grandpa and I saw the two little dogs! Thanks so much. We love them.

The Chocolate Easter Rabbit Song

I got a chocolate rabbit
For an Easter treat,
A great big chocolate rabbit
Good enough to eat.
So I ate his ears on Sunday,
His nose I finished Monday.
Tuesday I nibbled on his feet.
I ate his tail on Wednesday
Thursday I kept on,
By Friday he was going,
Saturday he was gone.
Oh, I loved my chocolate rabbit
From the moment that he came,
And if I get another one,
I’ll love him just the same.
~Author Unknown~

Hi MissC, Hat's off to the chocolate rabbit, and this song played on an old 45 rpm record. Your Mom, AuntT, and 2nd Cousins sang along-- children standing in a row in front of a live audience at (Great) Grandma's house.

A Seed Planted

Secret Garden by FH Burnett 1911
"might I have a bit of earth?"
Great Grandma Erma read this book when she was a girl. She discovered she loved gardening when she was a grown up, and now she's eighty years old, and still loves to dig in the dirt! Last week she went back to work at the green house, and helped to plant seedlings in hanging baskets--hundreds of them!

Winter Song

Hi Miss C,

It's cold and windy
today.
Twelve below, but now the sun is out!
I go for a walk and I hear singing.
Tee Da Dum
Tap Tap
Tee Da Dum
Tap Tap
A chickadee and
a woodpecker in a snowy tree.
They have no socks or winter boots
and such spindly little legs and feet.
Yet here they perch and tweet.

How can I describe it?

An Exercise For Writing DESCRIPTION:
Imagine you're at a familiar place you like - now put your pencil on the paper and write, and keep on writing!
Imagine stepping through the door (or the gate) of this happy place.
What do you see in the room on your right? Describe it.
What do you see on your left? Describe that too!
What do you see straight ahead ? Write!
Look down and look up. Imagine. What do you see on the floor and on the ceiling?
Where is the light coming from? From a window? A lamp?
Imagine what you hear, what you smell, and what you can touch.
Now tell in writing why you like this happy place so much!
PS. You may need several sheets of paper!
